What is a Plan?

You have created a Package with intention to create a Plan. The Plan can be broadly defined as a means of calculating the payout amount for the sales activities generated by the sales reps.

The outcome of the Plan is expressed in terms of monetary measures (e.g., $100.00 of sales commission, Annual Bonus, etc.) while credits, the outcomes resulted from calculating Measurements, do not necessarily have to do with money. They can be interpreted as meaningful points or grades that can be later converted to other forms of rewards (e.g., Vacation days earned, Cruise Mileages, etc.).

Given that you have created a Package, in order to create a Plan:

1. Plan Name

Name the plan with the one that makes the most sense conveying the purpose of the plan. (e.g., Commission, Bonus, Rewards, etc.)

2. Description

Leave the description if necessary.

3. Effective Date/Expiry Date

The Effective Date is when the plan is triggered and starts remitting the payout amounts. The Plan Effective Date should be either the same or the later date than the Compensation Calculation Period Effective Date.

4. Period Type

If you have more than one period type to choose, select one.

5. Deferred Period

If your business requires a delay in commission payment concerning various types of scope that can affect the actual amount of commission earned by a sales rep, you can set the Deferred Period. The number selected from the drop-down list indicates the number of periods withholding the calculation triggered by the sales compensation rules.

For example, you have a 90-days return policy that offsets the commission earned by a sales rep, and your compensation calculation period is Monthly. In order to avoid frequent claw-backs or any other adjustments in the sales rep’s earning, which can potentially undermine his or her motivation, you may want to defer the commission calculation for at least 3 months. In such cases, you can select 3 from the drop-down list.

6. Payment Type

Currently, inLOGIC offers only Cash type of payment, which means the outcomes will be expressed in terms of monetary values. However, in the next enhancement, more payment types will be added to meet diverse groups of users’ needs.

7. Source: Transaction vs. Measurement

You can create a Plan based on two different types of sources: Transactions or Measurements.

Transaction

When you are selecting Transaction over Measurement as a source of the plan, the system considers you have intention to pay for each individual sales activities generated by the sales reps. For example, at a retail store, each time a sales rep sells items, the individual transactions contribute towards the sales commission eligible.

Measurement

Unlike transaction, when you are selecting Measurement as a source of the plan, the system considers you intend to pay for credits that sales reps earned through overall transaction activities occurred during the specific period of time. For example, at a retail store, each time a sales rep sells items, each activity is measure by the metrics that you have set through Measurement and Formula, and the calculated credits contribute towards the sales commission.

  • After selecting the source, click Next button to proceed
  • Select Lookup to use in the plan
  • Click Next button to proceed
  • Write a Qualification Rules if applicable
  • In the next step, write a Plan Rule
  • Click Finish button

Qualification Filter

In the Qualification Filter, you can narrow down the criteria of the eligibility for the commission payout. Using the qualification filter, you can set the Hurdle or Threshold to express the minimum performance standards.

For example, when the plan is designed to incent only those who bring new customers, you can set the criteria as shown in the example below.

The Plan Rules can be expressed as simple as the example shown above. However, compensation rules are not always as simple as plus or minus. So, when the rule gets complicated and your business has more sophisticated requirements, you can also use “if…then…else” statement in rule writing.

Using if…then…else statements, you can execute multiple conditional statements. If the condition followed by the initial if is true, the system executes then block. Otherwise, the system will continue to execute the next conditional statements followed by else if. Given all of the conditions return false, the system will execute the else block.
